Hair Care in Excessive Heat

In the constant flux of nature, we adapt to its rules to survive. And in this ongoing process, along with our skin, our hair also needs care. During the hot season, due to excessive humidity in the air, our scalp, like other parts of the body, starts to sweat. This leads to scalp irritation, buildup, smell, dandruff, and the biggest problem: hair fall or hair breakage.
There are some very simple ways to solve these problems.
For example:
- Avoid direct sunlight: The UV index shows a very high level of the sun’s ultraviolet rays. These rays damage our hair proteins. This causes our hair roots to become weak, leading to excessive hair fall. Additionally, excessive sun exposure can cause our hair color to fade and premature graying. Therefore, it is important to cover your hair with an umbrella, a thin soft scarf, or a hat during the day. Nowadays, sun protection sprays and hair serums are available as sunscreens for hair. You can use them if you wish.
- Keep your hair clean: During hot weather, our scalp and hair become sweaty. This causes the hair to sweat from within, leading to increased dirt, dandruff, and excessive oil, creating a greasy feeling. Therefore, use shampoo and conditioner according to your hair type and problem. Due to a lack of proper hydration, the hair becomes dry and starts to split at the ends. To retain the hair’s moisture, massage with a non-sticky oil at least once or twice a week and use a hair mask after shampooing. This will make your hair soft and shiny.
- Hair oiling: Oiling is essential for the care of a dry and flaky scalp. There’s no need to leave oil on your hair overnight. Leaving oil on your scalp for too long can clog the pores, weaken the hair roots, and lead to hair fall. So, massage the oil well into your scalp before shampooing. After 30 minutes, wash it off with a normal shampoo and conditioner. For instant softness, you can use a hair serum.
- Reduce the use of heat styling tools: Avoid frequent use of various styling tools like straighteners, hair curlers, and dryers. Excessive heat in straightening or drying damages the hair. Then the hair starts to break from the middle. Using heat protecting spray, gel, or serum before using these tools reduces hair damage slightly.
- Use homemade hair masks: Hair fall or dandruff is a common problem during the hot season. For hair care, instead of using many things, you can use homemade hair masks 1-2 times a week.
- Yogurt and honey hair mask
Mix 2 tablespoons of yogurt, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice together to make a paste. Apply this paste thoroughly from the roots to the tips of your hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse off with a mild shampoo. This will make your hair smooth and help to eliminate dandruff.
- Coconut oil and aloe vera mask
Mix 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel thoroughly. Apply this mixture to your hair. Massage your scalp and leave it on for 1 hour. Then wash it off with shampoo. This deeply nourishes your hair and relieves dryness caused by the hot weather.
- Banana and honey hair mask
Mash one ripe banana and mix it with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of yogurt. Apply this mixture to your hair and leave it on for 20-30 minutes. Then rinse it off with cold water. This will make your hair soft and shiny.
We all face hair challenges as the seasons change. But remember, healthy hair can significantly impact how you feel about yourself. By incorporating a few simple steps into your daily routine, you can easily address many common hair problems. Give your beautiful hair the care it truly deserves.
