Hare Care in Hijab
Wearing the hijab is not just a part of fashion or styling — it is a profound expression of respect towards religious values, as well as a journey towards self-purification and completeness. Those who wear the hijab pay attention to every aspect of maintaining this beautiful attire. However, when it comes to taking care of hair while wearing the hijab, many often wonder how to manage their hair health, especially during the summer. In our country, the high humidity causes the scalp to sweat, making hair roots soft and leading to scalp buildup, dandruff, and hair fall.
That’s why today, we are sharing some simple hair care steps for hijab wearers:
Dry Your Hair Properly
Make sure your hair is completely dry after combing and before putting on the hijab. Since the hair remains covered for long hours, tying it up while still damp can soften the roots, cause scalp irritation, and lead to significant hair fall. So before wearing your hijab, dry your hair thoroughly using a fan, natural sunlight, or a hair dryer.
Don’t Tie Hair Too Tightly
Avoid pulling your hair too tightly when styling it under the hijab. Tight hairstyles can weaken hair follicles and cause hair fall. Since the hijab already keeps the hair in place, gently set your hair for better comfort throughout the day.
Use Shampoo Regularly
Many believe that since the hair is covered, it doesn’t get dirty and doesn’t need frequent washing. However, it’s important to remember that the scalp continuously produces sebum (natural oils). Without regular shampooing, the scalp becomes oily, leading to tangled hair. So, make sure to oil your hair regularly and cleanse it with a gentle shampoo. Using a silicone-free shampoo is highly recommended as it’s suitable for daily use. Ideally, shampoo your hair at least 2-3 times a week to maintain healthy hair.
Regular Hair Trimming
To avoid split ends and promote healthier hair, regular trims are necessary. Split ends can lead to increased hair fall and frizziness. Therefore, try to schedule a hair-trimming session every 6-8 weeks. If you color your hair or undergo chemical treatments, consider following up with hair spa sessions or keratin treatments.
Leave Hair Open for a While
Since hair stays covered under the hijab all day, sometimes excessive sweat and sebum production can soften the roots, causing breakage from the middle. Many also wear an inner cap under the hijab, which can add to this issue. Therefore, it’s a good idea to let your hair down for a while every day to allow it to breathe in fresh air and sunlight, keeping it vibrant and lively.
Choose Comfortable Hijab Fabrics
Opt for soft cotton or silk fabrics for your hijab. These materials allow better airflow and make wearing the hijab more comfortable, even in hot weather. Avoid tying your hijab too tightly. Instead, take your time to neatly arrange your scarf for a clean, elegant look.
Use Natural Hair Masks
For extra nourishment, you can try these natural DIY hair masks:
- Yogurt and Honey Hair Mask
Mix 2 tablespoons of yogurt with 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply this mixture to your scalp and hair, leave it on for 30 minutes, and then rinse. Yogurt retains moisture, and honey enhances hair shine. - Coconut Oil and Aloe Vera Mask
Mix 2 tablespoons of coconut oil with 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Warm the mixture slightly and massage it into your scalp. Leave it on for an hour before washing it off with a mild shampoo. Aloe vera strengthens hair roots and helps prevent dandruff. - Banana and Olive Oil Hair Mask
Mash 1 ripe banana and mix it with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Apply the paste to your hair, leave it for 20-30 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly with cool water. This mask hydrates dry, rough hair and leaves it soft and shiny.
When it comes to hair care, we don’t want to compromise. Although wearing a hijab can actually protect hair from much external damage, neglecting proper care can cause serious problems. That’s why, to keep your hair beautiful, thick, and healthy even under the hijab, make hair care a part of your regular routine.
Let your hair stay healthy and beautiful!
