Pre-Makeup Skincare Routine
Taking care of yourself not only enhances your appearance but also boosts your confidence and self-love. That’s why before going out or attending any special event, we often enjoy dressing up and doing our makeup. Alongside beautiful outfits, we pay special attention to how our makeup looks — it’s an essential part of the overall appearance.
We often make decent investments in makeup products without compromising our skin. Yet, even after buying well-reviewed products, many of us face issues like foundation not sitting properly on the skin, makeup not blending well, or not lasting long enough. So, is the problem with the product or with the skin itself? Let’s find out by looking into a few important steps.
- Face Cleansing – A Must!
To ensure a long-lasting makeup base, your face needs to be clean. If there’s dirt, oil, or sweat on your skin, it can make your makeup base slide off. So, start by washing your face with a cleanser or face wash that suits your skin type.
- Skin Exfoliation
Smooth skin texture helps makeup blend easily and stay longer. However, over-exfoliating is a big no-no! Over-exfoliated skin tends to cling to makeup and looks cakey. So, if you’re using a physical exfoliator, don’t rub for more than 30–45 seconds.
- Skin Hydration
To make your makeup last longer, a good moisturizer is essential. Hydrated skin remains soft and prepped for makeup. If you have oily skin, a matte foundation might make it overly dry. To avoid cakiness, always use a moisturizer suitable for your skin type. People with extremely dry and dull skin often use sheet masks, which are great for hydration too.
- Primer
Primer is like a best friend to your makeup base. It smooths out skin texture, minimizes pores, and helps foundation last longer. Many primers also come with skin-friendly active ingredients that offer additional benefits. But always choose a primer based on your skin type.
- Ice Rubbing
When foundation is applied over large or open pores, those areas become more visible. To help minimize enlarged pores, you can gently rub an ice cube wrapped in cloth over your skin.
Whether you’re going for a light or heavy makeup look, both are trendy now. However, when layering too many products without proper skincare, it can result in an unnatural finish. That’s why a glowing and healthy makeup look starts with proper skin prep.
